Song to listen to while reading, if you choose. HERE
If you didn’t know, I write and publish a blog every day. I know this isn’t uncommon, yet I never used to write before. And then I opened my laptop, and I haven’t stopped since.
Quite honestly, I surprised myself that I was able to keep going, so I have wanted to document my process thus far so I may share it with others or look back on it later and see where I have gone.
So far, my creative process varies. However, I have the most fun and best ideas, in my opinion, when I do the following in some shape or form, for it always varies slightly, which is the nature of this style.
Currently, I am writing notes down as they come to me; the state I find myself in is this.
I got plenty of sleep, I did my daily cold plunge, which always helps give me clarity of mind, and I have been doing my cold plunge every day that I write, so it may not be linked, but I think it is.
I have had a cup of coffee, and I definitely prefer to be slightly caffeinated all day.
Slightly distracted. I have music going loudly in the background—Wham Bang Shang-a-Lang by Silver, to be specific. I am also doing dishes.
It is so easy for ideas to come up while I am doing something else. Rick Rubin lays this idea out perfectly.
We might hold a problem to be solved lightly in the back of our consciousness instead of the front of our mind. This way, we can remain present with it over time while engaging in a simple, unrelated task. Examples include driving, walking, swimming, showering, washing dishes, dancing, or performing any activity we can accomplish on autopilot.
Also, at the same time, there were virtually no other distractions besides the necessary ones.
music for the correct vibe, and something trivial to occupy my mind, only enough for the ideas in the back seat to show themselves. Think of Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang, Season 3, Episode 14. The Einstien Approximation, when Sheldon became a dish boy at the cheesecake factory so his body could be occupied with work while his mind played.
I get writing ideas at any time, but my best ideas come if I follow this or a similar recipe.
The last and most important thing is that your idea might never come back. Write it down now; I don't care if you are driving, get out your phone and do a speech-to-text into a note app, or just text it to a friend for later. Keep a journal by your bed so that when you have those ideas as you are drifting off, you can write them down. Just write it down.
So for a recap,.
Cold plunge
Get stimulus, caffeine, or other.
Vibe check, music, or something to drown out unwanted interference, I.E texts phone calls, etc.
Intentional distractions: running, walking, dishes, mowing the lawn, sweeping, etc
Write it down right away. (another important reason to do something trivial that doesn’t have to be finished.)

Distracted
Distracted? I am all of the time, but I have also learned over the last few weeks that this is when I get some of my best ideas. Now, I don't mean losing focus entirely, but slightly losing focus brings some things into view. Think of being followed by a black cat at night. You know something is behind you, but the cat always stops when you go to look, an…
